Is St. Maarten a good place to buy an engagement ring?

My boyfriend and I are going on a cruise in May, stopping on the island of St. Maarten. I heard you can get engagement rings very cheap there b/c it is duty/tax free? Do you think buying the diamond there and getting it set in the states would be easier or ??? We are only there for 1 day. HELP. Any advice would be wonderful. Thanks!

    Personaly I think it is a waste of money to guy such things.

    I sure do not want to marry any one. Get a new model overy so often and enjoy life.

    For example my dad was suppossed to be in hawaii so if it when he discovered it was alot more expensive.
    For example my roomate is cheaper to be in japan on business and compare the prices are still alot cheaper to buy my.
